Community Engagement Hub

The formation of Community Engagement Hubs is the beginning of a ten year working relationship between the First Nations Health Council and First Nations Communities.

The purpose of Community Engagement Hubs (sometime referred to as CeHs or Hubs) is to assist communities to participate in the Transformative Change Accord and the ten-year Tripartite First Nations Health Plan.

Stó:lō  Nation is now one of 26 Hubs across B.C. Combined these 26 Hubs represent 160 of the 204  First Nations in B.C.

Our Mandate

Stó:lō  Nation Health Services, as a host agency is accountable to the communities in their Hub in the following ways:

  • Communication: to ensure that a two-way flow of information is maintained
  • Inclusion: ensure that every community has an equal voice
  • What do Hubs do?
  • Hubs Collaborate – with their communities members, with each other and with other Hubs.
  • Hubs Communicate with their communities, with other communities in their Hub, with other Hubs and with the First Nations Health Council.
  • Hubs Plan and support the development of Community Health Plans that recognize and meet their community’s needs.

Plans

Our Hub is just beginning and over the next year we will:

  • Host and take part in gatherings, events and workshops to inform the communities about what we do and to gather information about what the communities believe to be Health priorities.
  • Establish Stó:lō  Nation Hub Committee with two representatives from each of the eleven Stó:lō  communities, plus Youth and Elders. This committee will take the information provided by the communities and create Community Health Plans.
  • Create and implement a Youth Engagement Plan.
  • Establish an Elder’s Resource List for Cultural Contracts.
  • Launch our own Hub website to gather and share information.
  • Gather and share information about what services and programs are currently available?
  • Collaboratively discover resources and services gaps.
  • Find out what Health and Wellness issues really matter to our Hub Communities.
  • Ensure that the collective voices of our communities are heard by the First Nations Health Council.
  • Form and maintain working relationships with neighbouring Hubs and other stakeholders like Fraser Health.
  • Host the 2nd Annual Stó:lō  Nation Health Gathering.
